“Turkish nationalist challenges” – What the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports

“Right-wing and far-right parties do not participate in the Turkish government. However, they have a great influence on the country’s politics. On the one hand, they are disproportionately represented in the security authorities, on the other hand, they manage to set the agenda of the government by challenging important issues President Erdogan“, writes the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung under the title “Nationalist challenges”.

The Frankfurt newspaper observes: “Two of the right-wing and far-right parties are currently playing a decisive role, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), founded in 1969, and the Victory Party (Zafer Partisi), which was founded only in August 2021.

With its 48 seats, the MHP it ensures Erdogan’s ruling AKP a majority in parliament, but without taking part in the government. Sometimes the president of Devlet Bakhceli increases the pressure on the government as if he were an opposition politician.

On July 11, for example, he presented a map of the Aegean Sea, in which all islands up to 100 kilometers from the Turkish coast are included in Turkish territory, even Crete. Bakhceli’s provocation has served its purpose. Erdogan raised the tone against Greece and at the same time tensions increased in the Aegean”.
