Creepy findings in Colorado: Lake waters receded washing up human bones

On Saturday, city authorities announced that they had found new human remains in the reservoir that runs through the states of Arizona and Nevada, for the fourth time since May.

Authorities are trying to solve a chilling mystery of human bones found in the shrinking waters of Lake Mead in the southwestern United States.

On Saturday, city authorities announced that they had found new human remains in the reservoir that runs through the states of Arizona and Nevada, for the fourth time since May.

With the help of divers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, National Park Service officials from the lake recovered the human remains, which are the fourth different set of bones to be found in the lake, where water levels have receded to record lows. in the midst of an ongoing water crisis.

Remains discovered earlier, including a body found inside a corroded barrel with a bullet wound, were in an advanced stage of decomposition and therefore difficult to extract DNA analysis from, officials said.

For the body found in the barrel, authorities are conducting a special homicide investigation, as local police official Jason Johanson told CNNi, “anytime you have a body in a barrel, obviously someone else is involved.”

Investigators said the body belonged to a person fatally shot in the 70s or 80s.

It is noted that a body was discovered in May by two sisters who were rowing in the lake. Las Vegas police said at the time that no foul play is suspected in this death at this time, but “will conduct an investigation if it is determined to be a homicide or suspicious death.”

At its peak in the 1980s, Lake Mead—the largest man-made reservoir in the country—was more than 1,000 feet (370 meters) above sea level. But as the severe drought persists, water levels have fallen this year to their lowest level since the reservoir filled in the 1930s.

According to NASA, Lake Mead had water at just 27% of its capacity on July 18, 2022.

The water level has dropped so far that, in addition to the bodies, it also revealed a sunken World War II-era vessel, the Park Service announced in early July.
