At least 15 soldiers were killed in a double bomb attack in northern Burkina Faso today.

According to an army statement, the first bomb exploded as a personnel carrier was passing by and the second as other soldiers rushed to help.

So far, no organization has claimed responsibility for the double bombing, while investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators, the announcement emphasizes.

Jihadist organizations linked to al-Qaeda and the self-proclaimed Islamic State have been operating in the region since 2015.

A day earlier, gunmen launched an attack on a village in the area, killing ten people, the governor of Bam province said.

After the overthrow of President Kabore in a coup last January, the military that seized power promised to restore law and order in Burkina Faso. However, the action of jihadist organizations continues. Thousands of people have been killed and about 1.85 million people have been forced to flee their homes.
