French radio station RTL reports that the man “showed signs of aggression” and added: “Refusing to obey police orders, he allegedly ran towards the police. A photographer who witnessed the scene spoke of “a large colored person brandishing what looked like a knife at the officers. They ordered him to stop but he continued to walk towards them and an officer fired a single shot.”
