Toxic ammonia spewed from a burning brewery in the disputed Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, according to local pro-Russian separatist authorities.

According to the pro-Russian authorities, the fire at the brewery, in the Kalininsky district of the city of the same name, was caused by fire from the Ukrainian Artillery, while the toxic ammonia that was released in gaseous form has spread in a radius of two kilometers.

The authorities called on citizens to stay indoors and keep their windows closed. Ammonia, known for its pungent smell, is used as a cooling agent in the production of spirits.

Fighting is frequent and fierce around Donetsk, the largest city in Donbas — eastern Ukraine — which is a few kilometers from the frontlines of the war between the Ukrainian army and pro-Russian separatists since 2014.

Three civilians were killed by Ukrainian artillery shelling yesterday, separatists claimed.

This information is impossible to independently verify, notes the German Agency.
