The large operation of hosting children from Ukraine in Greek camps continues successfully. Last night, the second shipment of children from the long-suffering Butsa arrived in Promahonas. They will be accommodated in children’s camps in Halkidiki (Metamorfosi, Pefkohori, Nea Skioni), Asprovalta Thessaloniki and Orfani Kavala.
The coaches with the 140 children and their 28 companions were driven accompanied by Greek Police vehicles to the Sintiki facility, to spend there their first night and rest after a difficult journey of 1,500 kilometers. The children were welcomed by the commander Vassilis Nikiforou having taken care of every detail of their hospitality. In the morning, the test for COVID-19 was carried out by EODY officials and immediately after the children left for their holidays, which are a respite from the nightmare of war.

The number of boys and girls aged 6-15 who will be accommodated in August in the camps of the Panhellenic Union of Private Initiative Camp Operators (PELK), is expected to exceed 600. The 117 children of the first mission will leave for Ukraine on Sunday from the structure Serres, where they were welcomed by the administrator Dimitra Panagiotaki.
The hosting program for the children from Ukraine is supported by the International Organization for Migration which, after consulting Ms. Voultepsi with the head of the IOM Greece Mission, Gianluca Rocco, assumed responsibility for their internal movements to and from the camps, as well as the expenses for the supply of bed linen and clothing for the needs of small guests.
The Reception and Identification structures of Sintiki and Serres were mobilized by the general secretary of Reception of Asylum Applicants of the Ministry of Immigration, Manos Logothetis, who is also responsible for the intermediate stations of this long journey.
