Podcast: Women under the Taliban, a year after the fall of Kabul

by

About a year ago, the Taliban invaded Kabul and returned to power in Afghanistan after 20 years of occupation by US and other Western troops. The first time the Islamic fundamentalist group was in power, Afghanistan experienced serious violations of the rights of women, who were banned from studying and exercising a number of professions.

After regaining control of the country, the Taliban said they would not restrict Afghan women’s freedoms again, but they did not keep their promise. The group’s return triggered a wave of refugees — part of them came to Brazil.

In this Monday’s episode (15), Café da Manhã features reports of women who fled Afghanistan and now live in Brazil. The podcast also talks with the reporter from Sheet Flávia Mantovani about how the lives of these women have been since the Taliban returned to power, the situation in Afghanistan and the new wave of refugees leaving there.

The audio program is published on Spotify, partner streaming service of Sheet in the initiative and who specializes in music, podcast and video. You can listen to the episode by clicking above. To access the application, simply register for free.
