Russian officer kills taxi driver after argument over war in Ukraine

A military court in the city of Rostov decided to remand a Russian soldier from the Moscow region for two months as he is accused of murdering a taxi driver, following an argument about the war in Ukraine.

The news was reported by the websites 161.ru and Kommersant-Yug citing the press service of the court.

The perpetrator is considered to be 33-year-old captain Alexei Krylov. The victim was a 51-year-old taxi driver, Roman Gavasari, originally from Azerbaijan, who had lived in the Rostov region for years.

The driver’s relatives confirmed his death on the Astra website. According to the information of the website 161.ru, the captain served in a military missile unit and had served in several “hot locations”.

According to judicial sources, on August 15, the Russian soldier had an argument about the war in Ukraine with the driver of the taxi he was riding in. The officer shot four times with a Makarov type revolver at the unfortunate taxi driver, who expired before first aid arrived.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, the Investigative Committee brought criminal charges against the soldier for manslaughter. The website 161.ru writes that the officer risks being sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The Russian Ministry of Defense does not comment on the incident.
