At least 36 people have died and 145 others have been injured in the floods caused by heavy rains in the last 24 hours in Pakistan, as announced by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Among the victims are seven children and five women.

The southern province of Sindh suffered the worst, with 18 dead and 128 injured. 11 people died in the province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (north-west) and another 7 in the eastern province of Punjab.

The total death toll in Pakistan’s monsoon season (from mid-June to date) has reached 728, including 263 children and 156 women, NDMA says, adding that 116,771 houses, 129 bridges and 50 shops have been destroyed.
Army forces have been deployed in the affected areas, where essential items are being transported to the flood victims.
