Today, the Commission decided to register the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) entitled “Call for a smoke-free environment and the first European smoke-free generation by 2030”.
The organizers of the initiative call on the Commission to propose legislation aimed at protecting young generations from tobacco addiction, action against related environmental risks and the fight against smoking.

If a European Citizens’ Initiative collects one million statements of support from at least seven different Member States within a year, the Commission will have to take a stand.
The Commission may decide whether or not to proceed with the request and should give reasons for its reasoning.
