A Canadian agent working as a double agent for the Islamic State smuggled Shamima Begum and two of her friends into Syria, an explosive new book claims.
Reports suggest that the London Metropolitan Police were eventually told that the trio, all teenagers at the time, were tipped off to a terrorist group by a smuggler who tipped them off to Canadian intelligence.
However, the move was alleged to have been kept secret until Canada, which privately acknowledged its involvement, asked the UK not to publicly reveal what had happened.
Begum has been at the center of debates about her rights in recent years after joining the Islamic State in 2015.
After trying to return to England four years later, he was stripped of his citizenship and told he could never return.
Begum, now 23, was 15 at the time, while two other East London girls, Amira Abbas, 15, and Kadiza Sultana, 16, met Muhammad Al-Rashid at a train station in Istanbul, who helped join the Islamic State.
Even when Metropolitan Airlines launched an international manhunt for the girls, Canada is said to have remained silent, even though it knew what had happened to them.

Former Sunday Times security correspondent Richard Kirby details the apparent cover-up in a book called “The Secret History of the Five Eyes”, which is published today, The Times revealed. .
The BBC also quoted a senior intelligence official who confirmed that Mr. Rasheed was providing information to Canadian intelligence while smuggling people to the Islamic State.
If it proves that an intelligence agent who worked for a Western ally helped facilitate the infamous trip, it will likely revive the debate over Ms Begum’s citizenship.
Beg initially said he did not regret his actions, but later apologized and said he had made up.
Canadian and British intelligence agencies declined to comment.
