Due to climate change and the cost of living crisis, we are all trying to shop and spend less.
When it comes to our clothes, it means working more with what you already have, eliminating the temptation to buy and reducing the cost of each item per garment.
It also means letting go of the “I have nothing to wear” mentality when looking at your wardrobe. You don’t need new clothes to feel good. It just takes a little creativity.
Fashion stylist Beth Jones recently shared tips for reusing understated shirts.
On TikTok, Betty shows off her outfit of the day. Purple bandeau top and voluminous striped skirt.
“I loved the idea of pairing this skirt with this little short-sleeved blazer,” she says, trying on the pastel ensemble.
The button-down shirt matches the rest of her outfit, but the shape doesn’t balance the skirt’s A-line silhouette.
An off-the-shoulder bardot neckline and cinched waist instantly create a new blouse that complements your dress.
“The neckline creates a nice little cleavage,” Moda says, before launching into a mini-tutorial on how to style your look if you’re single.
Wrap the shirt or blazer you’re wearing around your waist with the bottom two buttons facing up (but don’t put your arms around it). Then flip the top so the buttons are at the back and pull the sleeves down.
Once it’s wrapped around the shoulders, it’s ready, but B adds a belt at the waist for added interest.
The back closure gives a wraparound effect and looks intentional, so you don’t have to worry about thinking you’re wearing the top inside out.
Dare I say it, it looks like something Carrie Bradshaw would wear: a new designer piece without the Manhattan price tag.
It’s a tip that works just as well for shirts and blazers, giving worn-but-forgotten staples a chance to shine again.
