A man suspected of murdering a convicted pedophile who was attacked in his home has been arrested.
John Coxson, 77, died on March 25, two months after the attack.
A 64-year-old man arrested on GBH charges has been rearrested on murder charges.
The Coxsons’ home, where he and his wife lived for more than a decade, was regularly attacked by vigilantes, neighbors said.
One woman, who requested anonymity, said police had installed surveillance cameras on a utility pole 50 feet from her home to protect Coxsone.
he said:
“I am not sorry that he died. I’m relieved. I had to raise my children on this street and I always refused to let them play.
Another local resident who has been living on the streets for five years said:
If he gets killed, it’s fair game. “Obviously the person who did this needs to be punished, but they will probably look upon him as a hero.”
He first appeared in court in 2009 when he was found to have lewd images of his children. He was arrested for the same offense in 2016 and violated the order in 2017 by talking to a 7-year-old girl.
Police are expected to remain at his home this week as officers continue their investigation.
Detective Adam Stacy said:
We wanted the community to know why we are in this area. We also call on anyone who may have information related to Coxsone’s death to come forward.
“Mr. Coxsone also passed away a few months ago, so I’d like to ask those who haven’t heard about the reasons that led to his death.
