The former police officer in question was found guilty of assaulting a Washington police officer during the January 6, 2021, riots at the Capitol by supporters of then-President Donald Trump.
Former New York police officer Thomas Webster, who attacked his colleagues on January 6, 2021 at the Capitol, was sentenced today to 10 years in prison, the heaviest sentence to date for the attack, Politico and CBS News reported.
Webster was found guilty in May of assaulting a Washington police officer during the Capitol Hill riots by supporters of then-President Donald Trump. The District of Columbia federal court rejected his claim that he was acting in self-defense when he hit the police officer with a pole and knocked him down.
“I, too, wish you hadn’t come to Washington. I too wish that you had stayed at home in New York (…) that you had not gone to the Capitol that day, because we would all be better off. Not just you… but your family (…) the country,” said Judge Amit Mehta while announcing the sentence.
