Ora Pois: September 7 in Lisbon will have an orchestra in the garden of Torre de Belém

by

The bicentennial celebration of Brazilian Independence in Lisbon will have as its high point a performance by the award-winning Orquestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais. The musicians will perform a free concert in the garden of one of the city’s main postcards: the Belém Tower.

The show starts at 9 pm and will be conducted by maestro Fabio Mechetti.

The presentation is also part of the “Lisboa na Rua” project, which takes cultural shows to open spaces in the city. To present an overview of Brazilian music to the Portuguese audience, the show will feature different rhythms of Brazilian culture, with various styles and influences.

The repertoire will have works by artists such as Alberto Nepomuceno and Carlos Gomes. Written by Dom Pedro 1º, the Independence Anthem will also be part of the show.

The composer side of the first Brazilian emperor, in fact, has been explored by the orchestra, which also launches, on the occasion of the bicentennial of Independence, a special album with only the monarch’s compositions.

The Philharmonic tour in Portugal has three other performances in September: in Porto (6), in Lisbon (8) and in Coimbra (9).

“We will bring to our sister country a Luso-Brazilian repertoire, with significant works of the best symphonic music from both countries and the participation of Jean-Louis Steuerman, one of the most important names among Brazilian pianists. The concerts will not only bear the name of the Brazil and Minas Gerais to Europe, but they will consolidate the work that the Philharmonic has been doing for almost fifteen years, as something that represents the best of Brazilian culture”, says conductor Fabio Mechetti.
