“This will support countries in need and help stabilize the global food situation,” the ministry statement added.

By contrast, in Kyiv, Ukraine’s agriculture ministry announced that Ukrainian grain exports are down 54.5% year-on-year in 2022-23 to now at 4.16 million tonnes.

Ukraine’s grain exports fell significantly after the start of the war because Black Sea ports, a key transport route, were closed, driving up global food prices and raising fears of shortages in Africa and the Middle East.

Three Black Sea ports were blockaded in late July under an agreement reached between Moscow and Kiev, brokered by the United Nations and Turkey.

Ukrainian ministry data showed exports year-to-date in the period July 2022 to June 2023 included 2.59 million tons of corn, 1.19 million tons of wheat and 361,000 tons of barley.

The amounts include 195,000 tonnes of grain exported so far in September, compared to 514,000 tonnes exported in the same period last year.

The government has announced that Ukraine could harvest at least 50 million tonnes of grain this year, down from a record 86 million tonnes in 2021, due to the loss of land seized by Russian forces and lower grain yields. .
