Teacher and two young children were found shot in their home

A school teacher and two young children were found shot to death in their suburban home.

Laura Moberly, 42, was found dead in her Holly County, South Carolina home on Wednesday. Those who died were her children, Eric Moberly, 11, and Emily Moberly, 8.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., after attending a wellness check at a home in Carolina Woods, police discovered the gruesome scene. All three victims died of gunshot wounds at 6 am that same day.

Authorities have not released information on who may have carried out the shooting.

“Our community is suffering today. It’s undeniable,” Hawley County Police said.

Laura worked as a teacher at Carolina Forest Elementary School and was hired as a reading specialist in 2018. Emily was in the third grade and Eric was in the seventh grade in the same school district.

“We are left speechless after learning of the tragic incident that affected every family associated with Holly County Schools,” the school district said in a statement.

“My sincerest prayers go out to the Moberly family and everyone who knows them. I urge our community to continue to think and pray for our students and staff during this incredibly difficult time.”

Carolina Forest is a small unincorporated community in Holly County, just north of Myrtle Beach.

Police investigations are still ongoing, but officials do not believe they pose a threat to the public. It is not clear if they were arrested in connection with the shooting.

Earlier this week, another strange murder occurred in a small town in a wheat field in North Dakota. A farm owner was found dead in a wheat harvester along with three workers in what investigators believe is a triple murder-suicide.
