In a speech in Pennsylvania, the Republican former president called his successor “an enemy of the state”, responding to a fierce attack launched against him by Joe Biden, describing him and his followers as representatives of “an extremism that threatens the very foundations of democracy”.
Former US President Donald Trump called his successor, Joe Biden, an “enemy of the state” in front of his supporters, also denouncing the FBI’s search of his Florida home, during a campaign event ahead of the midterm elections last Saturday night in Pennsylvania.
“This is the enemy of the state,” Mr. Trump blasted to the crowd, responding to a scathing attack by President Biden, who two days earlier said the Republican and his followers represented “an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our democracy”.
“His speech” was nothing but a manifestation of “hate and rage,” Donald Trump judged, accusing Mr. Biden of calling his supporters a “threat to democracy” and “enemies of the state.”
“The enemy of the state is him and the group that controls him,” continued the former president, speaking in the key state in the Nov. 8 midterm elections, when it will be decided which party controls both houses of the US Congress.
In his first public appearance since the federal police search of his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, on August 8, Mr Trump said the operation was “the most egregious example of the very real threats to freedom of Americans’ and one of the ‘most shocking abuses of power by any administration in American history’.
The former president insisted the “reprehensible raid” on “my Mar-a-Lago home” was a “travesty of justice” as he continues to flirt more openly with another run for the White House in 2024.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the raid because it suspected the former president was illegally in possession of confidential and classified documents from his time in the White House (2017-2021). Federal police officers estimate that inside the approximately thirty boxes seized were top secret documents that “may have been hidden” to hinder the investigation, according to a Justice Department document.
