“We know her well in Ukraine. She was always on the enlightened side of European politics,” Zelensky said of Truss in a videotaped speech after praising her predecessor Boris Johnson.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Britain’s new prime minister, Liz Truss, was “always on the enlightened side of European politics” and that Kyiv looked forward to strengthening cooperation between the two countries during her days in Downing Street.

“We know her well in Ukraine. She was always on the enlightened side of European politics,” Zelensky said of Truss in a videotaped speech after praising her predecessor Boris Johnson.

“I believe that together we will be able to do more for the defense of our people and the failure of Russia’s destructive efforts,” the Ukrainian president said.

Earlier today, Boris Johnson had a phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky – his last as British prime minister – in which he stressed that the Ukrainians can win the war against the Russian invaders and expressed confidence that they will. At the same time, he assured Zelensky that they would stay in touch as friends.
