Unvaccinated people in Italy will not be able to go to the cinema, theater, concerts and major sporting events from today, according to the restrictive measures that come into force today.
The only exception to the rule are those who have recently been treated by Covid-19, who also have access to the “super pass” given to those vaccinated. The “basic pass”, which is issued after a negative diagnostic test, is used only for access to the workplace.
The “basic pass”, which until now was required for access to airplanes or long-distance trains, will now be required for local travel (metro, bus and local trains).
The inspections started early in the morning at the railway stations across the country and a record number of sanitary passes were issued electronically yesterday in view of the strengthening of the restrictive measures.
In Rome, a fine of 400 euros was imposed on a 50-year-old man who got off the bus without a pass near the Piazza del Popolo, in the historic center of the Italian capital, according to the Corriere della Sera. “I do not have it because I wanted to be vaccinated in the next few days,” he said.
This weekend, the obligation to use a mask outdoors in Rome came into force, especially on the busy shopping streets.
Italy, which was hit hard by the epidemic in early 2020, has so far recorded 134,000 deaths. Even though the number of cases is increasing, Italy is in a better position than its neighbors, recording 15,000 and 20,000 new cases daily in recent days.
About 85% of those over 12 years of age are fully vaccinated, the vaccination campaign for the third booster dose is in progress and vaccines for children 5 to 11 years old will be available soon.
The “basic pass” was introduced in August and provided access to cinemas, theaters, museums and restaurants. In October, it became mandatory for all workplaces.
From today, the “super pass”, which is given exclusively to the vaccinated and the recently recovered, will be required for all cultural activities and inside the restaurants.
Instead, the “basic pass” is enough to sit outside in restaurants or have a coffee while standing at the bar.
