Johnson then left for the royal castle of Balmoral in Scotland to deliver his resignation to Queen Elizabeth. Liz Truss will also go to Balmoral to receive the mandate to form a government, before returning to Downing Street in the afternoon for her first speech as the 56th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
