Afghanistan: At least six dead from two earthquakes

One earthquake measured 4.8 on the Richter scale and the second 4.3 on the Richter scale

Two earthquakes occurred today in Afghanistanwith at least six people dead as a result of one earthquake in the northeastern part of the country, according to officials.

The earthquake early this morning in northeastern Kunar province also left nine people injured, according to Mohammad Naseem Haqqani, a representative of the Afghan ministry responsible for dealing with disasters. The US Geological Survey registered a magnitude 4.3 tremor in the area.

Also this morning, the European Seismological Service recorded another earthquake of magnitude 4.8 points, in the northern part of the country. Haqqani said there were no reports of casualties or damage yet northern Badakhshanthe area possibly affected by the second earthquake.

This year, the Afghanistan it has been hit by natural disasters, including drought and an earthquake that killed more than 1,000 people in June in the eastern part of the country.
