Man in Nice repeatedly crashed his car into police car before being fatally shot – Woman in Rennes shot by police officer during drug investigation
A man fell dead in Nice, a woman in Rennes: within 24 hours, two people were killed in France by police fire, as they refused to obey the orders of the police, in one case during a traffic control, in the other in an operation to dismantle a drug trafficking ring.
At Nice, the driver of a stolen car, a Tunisian citizen, died today. According to the police, he was spotted by traffic officers while doing “dangerous zig-zags” on a motorway. Officers pursued the vehicle which, when it fell into traffic, made a 180-degree turn, came head-on with the patrol car and crashed into it “repeatedly”. Two police officers were slightly injured. An officer fired once and the driver was killed on the spot.
A few hours earlier, a 22-year-old woman was killed and a 26-year-old man was injured in Wren, in northwestern France. Around 1 a.m. local time, a police officer fired once with his service revolver as colleagues checked a car as part of a drug investigation, Rennes prosecutor Philippe Astrick said.
The driver of the car, who was known to the authorities for drug trafficking cases, was hit in the arm. The bullet ricocheted and struck his passenger, who was killed.
