Doctors are concerned about Queen Elizabeth II’s health and have recommended that the 96-year-old monarch remain under medical supervision, a Buckingham Palace statement said Thursday. According to the note, the monarch will stay at Balmoral Castle, the British royal family’s residence in Scotland located about 800 kilometers north of London.
The oldest queen in office and the oldest British monarch ever has been suffering since late 2021 from mobility issues that made her adopt a cane.
A palace source told Reuters there was speculation that she had suffered a fall now, but royal family members played down the rumours.
The monarch’s presence at official events has drastically decreased since last October, when she spent a night in hospital – it was the sovereign’s first hospitalization since 2013. Earlier this year, she also had Covid.
