The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, sent their condolences on the death of Queen Elizabeth.
“He experienced war and reconciliation in Europe and beyond and profound changes in our planet and societies,” von der Leyen said, adding that he “never stopped demonstrating calmness and devotion, which gave strength to many.”
“Our thoughts are with the royal family and all those grieving for Queen Elizabeth II in the United Kingdom and around the world,” said Charles Michel.
“The EU pays tribute to its unique contribution to building peace and reconciliation. While her loss will be felt around the world, our thoughts are with her family and the people of the United Kingdom,” Borrell said.
