“It is a day of sadness for the world, we declare three days of national mourning and call on all the Brazilian people to pay tribute to Elizabeth,” Mr Bolsonaro said on Twitter.
President Jair Bolsonaro on Thursday declared three days of national mourning in Brazil for the death of Queen Elizabeth, according to a decision published in the official Government Gazette.
The decision concerns all of Brazil “as an expression of condolences for the death of her majesty” and is applicable from its publication.
“It is a day of sadness for the world, we declare three days of national mourning and call on all the Brazilian people to pay tribute to Elizabeth,” Mr Bolsonaro said on Twitter.
“May God welcome her into his infinite goodness and comfort her family and the British people,” the far-right president added in another tweet.
Brazil does not have particularly close relations with the United Kingdom, where the holder of the throne died on Thursday at the age of 96.
Jair Bolsonaro, who is continuing his re-election campaign, had already declared three days of national mourning on July 8, following the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
