A knife-wielding man wounded two people in a southern German city on Thursday night before being shot dead by police, who said they were investigating a crime with “Islamic” or “terrorist” motives.
The man, in his 30s, attacked passers-by with “at least one knife” near the bus station in Ansbach, a Bavarian community not far from Nuremberg, local police said in a statement.
Two people were injured but their lives are not in danger, according to the same source.
When law enforcement intervened the man “attacked police officers” who opened fire and fatally wounded him, according to the statement.
According to eyewitnesses, “the man (…) shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ repeatedly while committing his acts”, the police clarified, adding that they are conducting an investigation to find out if “the crimes had an Islamic or terrorist background”.
