Decorated by Queen Elizabeth II for more than 20 years with the title of Sir, British musician Elton John paid tribute to the monarch after her death on Thursday (8). “Along with the rest of the nation, I am deeply saddened,” said he, who was a close friend of Princess Diana (1961-1997).

“Is it over there [a rainha] he was an inspiring presence and led the country through some of our greatest and darkest times with grace, decency and genuine caring. Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly.”

Also holding the title of Sir, musician Mick Jagger said the Queen has been present throughout his life. “In my childhood, I remember watching highlights of her wedding on TV. I remember her since she was a beautiful young woman who became the nation’s beloved grandmother. My deepest condolences go out to the royal family.”

British actor Daniel Craig, the most recent interpreter of 007, who made a scene with the queen at the opening of the 2012 Olympics, also paid tributes. “My thoughts are with the royal family, those she loved and all those who loved her. She leaves an unparalleled legacy and will be greatly missed,” he said.

Other British artists also offered their condolences. Singer Harry Styles interrupted a performance at Madison Square Garden in New York, USA, asking for a round of applause for the monarch. Ozzy Osbourne said he had a heavy heart. “It’s devastating to think of England without Queen Elizabeth II,” he said.

“His legacy will be remembered as a selfless beacon of love, understanding and celebration of fellow human beings across the world, no matter race or creed. Madeleine and I are deeply saddened by this news, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Her Majesty the Queen,” said composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Queen Elizabeth II, who for seven decades held the British throne and became a symbol of the monarchy around the world, died at age 96 in Balmoral, Scotland, where she spent her summer. Her eldest son, Prince Charles, will succeed her on the throne. Other famous people around the world also mourned the death.
