Today marks 21 years since organized hijackers flew planes into the World Trade Center and other areas of New York City, killing an estimated 3,000 people.

It was the deadliest terrorist attack in the continental United States and is celebrated each year on its anniversary.

Today, President Joe Biden gave a speech to mark the day, saying, “We will never forget. We will never forget.”

He also spoke about Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday, and recalled her words after the attack.

Repeating his words, he said:

“Many of us have been through this pain, and so have you.

In the hypocenter of New York, the memorial service began with the ringing of bells and a moment of silence.

President Biden addressed and was crowned at the Pentagon, while First Lady Jill Biden addressed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. There, one of the hijacked planes crashed after passengers and crew tried to storm the cabin as the hijackers were en route to Washington.

Flags bearing the names of those who died line the memorial pool at the site of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center.

The president joined the families of the victims and first responders who were at the Pentagon on the day of the attack.

“We have an unbelievable amount of unbelievable debt,” he said.

Al-Qaeda co-conspirators took control of the plane and launched a rocket packed with passengers.

Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff attended a ceremony at the National 9/11 Memorial in New York, but neither politician traditionally speaks at ground zero.

Instead, it focuses on family members of the victim reading the name of the deceased aloud.
