The former king has been living in exile in Abu Dhabi since 2020 – Legal proceedings have been launched in Britain against Juan Carlos for the intentional harassment of his ex-partner, Corinne Chou Zain-Wittgenstein
Former King of Spain Juan Carlos, who lives in exile in Abu Dhabi from 2020will attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, along with his son, King Felipe VI and Queen Letitia.
At the expense of Juan Carlos has begun legal proceedings in Britain for the intentional harassment of his ex-partner, Corinna Chu Zain-Wittgenstein, a 58-year-old businesswoman from Denmark.
84-year-old Juan Carlos was invited by the British government and will attend the funeral with his wife Sofia.
In July, a British court gave him the green light to appeal a ruling that denied him the right to invoke his immunity in her case Sein-Wittgenstein. A few months earlier, in March, the High Court in London ruled that Juan Carlos is no longer a “monarch” or “head of state” and therefore does not enjoy immunity. That decision was a blow to the former king. The Spanish judiciary at the same time put on record three investigations against him on charges of corruption and misuse of public money.
