Ankara responds to the messages sent by Athens with aggressive comments against extreme Turkish provocations for the Aegean islands

As reported by SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis, Mr Mevlut Cavusoglu to a journalist’s question about the phrase “those who threaten that they will come suddenly one night, we are waiting for them in the daylight” of Kyriakou Mitsotakisstated that Turkey will do… whatever it wants.

“We decide when and where we go”, said the Turkish Foreign Minister. “We don’t even have to answer those words,” he added

While asked about the possibility of Greece-Turkey meeting in the context of the UN, he replied that no such thing has been planned while claiming that Greece is disturbed by the “important role of Turkey”: “There is no planned meeting. There was no such initiative. Greece was annoyed that Turkey has taken an important role. First we signed with Libya the agreement on the delimitation of maritime zones of jurisdiction. Then we determined the western limits of our continental shelf.

At the same time, he continued the Turkish narrative that Greece provokes and threatens Turkey: “Nine times Greek Cypriot and third country ships tried to enter. We prevented all this with diplomatic efforts and with the measures we took in the field. The prominence and success of Turkey in the international arena drives Greece crazy. That’s why Greece wants to challenge Turkey. Harassment, blocking (with radars) are some of these examples. In addition, Greece constantly mentions that Turkey does not participate in the sanctions and the issue of tourists coming to Turkey. It’s clear they’re very upset about that as well.”
