Mass grave horror at Izium – ‘99% of bodies show signs of violent death’

by

“There are many bodies with their hands tied behind their backs and one man was buried with a rope around his neck,” local authorities said.

“99%” of the bodies exhumed today at Iziumcity of eastern Ukraine, which was under Russian occupation and was recently recaptured by Ukrainian forces show “signs of violent death”, said local governor Oleg Sinegubov.

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Ukrainian Parliament, Dmytro Lubinets, said on Telegram that “there were probably more than 1,000 Ukrainian citizens who were tortured and killed in the now-liberated territories of the Kharkiv region.”

In Izium, “there are many corpses with his hands tied behind his back and a man was buried with a rope round his neck. Obviously, these people were tortured and executed,” Oleg Sinegubov said on Telegram, accompanying his text with photos of hundreds of graves discovered in Izium.

“450 civilian bodies bear signs of violent death and torture” at the site discovered by Ukrainian authorities, the governor wrote.

Oleg Sinegubov added that “there are also children” among the bodies found at the site today.

“The bodies will be sent for autopsies to determine the exact cause of death…Each dead person will be investigated and will be evidence of Russian war crimes before international courts.”

“The dimensions of the crimes committed by the Russians in Izium are enormous,” he writes, denouncing “bloody and barbaric terrorism.”

This is not the first time in Russia’s war that Russia has been accused of atrocities. During the first weeks of the Russian invasion, Moscow was accused of war crimes in the Kiev region. The Kremlin has consistently denied the accusations.
