President Biden and his wife Jill appeared in a raised area inside the Westminster Hall
US President Joe Biden today paid his last respects in front of the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II in London, like many other foreign leaders who arrived in the British capital for her funeral, which will be held tomorrow, Monday.
President Biden and his wife Jill appeared on a raised platform inside the chamber of Westminster where the Queen’s coffin lies as a line of people passed in front of him. The American president made the shape of the cross and put his hand over his heart.
Signing the book of condolences, Joe Biden hailed Elizabeth’s sense of “dignity” and “service” and added that “the world is a better place because of her.”
“I’ve already said that my mother and my father believed that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and that’s exactly what she exuded,” Biden told reporters, adding that she had “above all a sense of service.”
Earlier today, the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and King Philip VI of Spain paid their last respects to Elizabeth.
The US president will tonight join King Charles and other leaders at a reception ahead of tomorrow’s funeral service.
