“If you look around, nobody’s wearing a mask, and everybody’s probably in good shape,” Mr. Biden said in an interview with the television network’s 60 Minutes.
Elsewhere in the interview, President Joe Biden said that the US armed forces would defend Taiwan in the event of an invasion of the island by China’s military.
Asked whether the US military would defend Taiwan, which China considers a breakaway province destined to be reunited with the mainland in the future, Mr Biden said “yes, if there really was an unprecedented attack”.
In fact, when pressed to answer whether he means that contrary to what happened in Ukraine, the American armed forces would be involved against China in the event of an invasion of Taiwan, Mr. Biden answered in one word: “yes”.
Also, the US president made it known that he warned his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping against the risk of a mass flight of investors in the event that Beijing violates sanctions against Moscow due to Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.
However, he noted that “for now, there is no indication that they (the Chinese) offered weapons or other things that Russia needs.”
