“Although we have differences on some issues concerning our national security, on many regional and global issues we maintain similar positions,” the Turkish president said on US-Turkey relations
The message that there is no problem that cannot be solved by the USA and Turkey was sent to Washington today by Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
As reported by Manolis Kostidis from Istanbul, the Turkish President noted that the two countries act as two strategic partners and allies for 70 years.
“We are together in NATO. Turkey is one of the first important members of NATO. And in levels of monetary contribution as well as correspondingly we strengthen with our land army. We are from the 5 largest countries. Therefore, Turkey’s position must be understood, and decisions and steps must be taken with these facts in mind,” said the Turkish president.
Then he went on to talk about them relations between the two countries: “Although we have differences on some issues concerning our national security, on many regional and global issues we maintain similar attitudes. In the next period of our relations with the USA we hope to resolve the problems between us while developing our cooperation in the framework of the common interest”.
He reminded at the same time that Turkey is determined to defends its maritime rights: “In the Black Sea, Southern Mediterranean and Aegean there is a Turkey that has a strong army, strong diplomacy and is determined to defend its rights”.
Finally he left spikes against Greece for the migratory:
“We are not a country that drowns refugees and immigrants in the Aegean and Mediterranean. On the contrary, Turkey is the one who rescues and protects them.”
