A “punitive” Ukrainian raid on Donetsk, the capital of the separatist zone of the same name in eastern Ukraine, has resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians, the city’s pro-Russian mayor, Alexei Kemzhulin, said today.

“According to preliminary data, 13 civilians were killed after a punitive shelling on Baku’s Commissars Square,” in western Donetsk, Kemzulin said on Telegram, adding that “the number of injured is still being determined.”

Nine 155mm projectiles were fired from the village of Netaylove“, he clarified, calling on residents to “not leave their homes unless absolutely necessary”.

These statements cannot yet be independently verified.

Almost seven months after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the bombing continues unabated.

Thus, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed today that it launched several strikes across the country yesterday, Sunday, among which one in the city of Zaporizhia (southern) “destroyed workshops (…) where American Himars (missile) systems were maintained.”

Clashes also took place on the outskirts of the separatist Donetsk region, as well as in neighboring Luhansk region.

Faced with a Ukrainian counter-offensive launched in early September in the Kharkov region, further north, the Russian army was forced to withdraw part of its troops in order to “reinforce” those in Donetsk, where fighting is a daily occurrence.

The Ukrainian presidency said today that “ten civilians were killed and 22 wounded” after Russian strikes during yesterday’s day.
