Ulf Kristerson is expected to try to form a minority government

The leader of the Moderate party Ulf Christerson received mandate to form a government after the parliamentary elections that gave the majority to the right/far-right bloc, announced the speaker of the Swedish parliament.

“It was a simple decision,” he said Anders Norlen adding that he has not set a deadline for the duration of the consultations.

The Moderates, the far-right Sweden Democrats, the Christian Democrats and the Liberals secured 176 seats in the 349-member parliament and have a narrow majority over the center-left bloc (173 seats).

Ulf Kristerson is expected to try to form a minority government, from which the far-right Sweden Democrats and perhaps one more of the bloc’s parties will probably be absent, counting on their parliamentary support.

The election brought an upheaval in Sweden’s political scene, bringing the Sweden Democrats, a party with Nazi/neo-Nazi roots, poised to influence government policy, into second place.
