Typhoon Nanmadol “sweeps” Japan: 9 million displaced, 2 dead and 90 injured – Watch video

Transport and businesses have been disrupted and the country is braced for widespread flooding and landslides.

Nine million people have been told to evacuate their homes as one of Japan’s worst typhoons to ever hit the country rages.

Super typhoon Nanmadol resulted in the death of 2 people while injuring nearly 90.

The typhoon hit Japan’s southernmost island of Kyushu on Sunday morning and is forecast to pass over the main island of Honshu in the coming days.

As the BBC points out, tens of thousands of people spent Sunday night in emergency shelters and nearly 350,000 homes are without power.

Transport and businesses have been disrupted and the country is braced for widespread flooding and landslides.

The typhoon brought gusts of up to 234 km/h (145 mph) and some areas were predicted to receive 400 mm (16 in) of rain in 24 hours.

Train routes, ferries and hundreds of flights have been cancelled.

Many stores and other businesses have been closed and sandbags have been placed to protect some properties.
