From the floor of the United Nations General Assembly, French President Emmanuel Macron accused Russia of causing the “return of imperialism” to Europe with its invasion of Ukraine in late February.
“What we have been witnessing since February 24 is a return to the era of imperialism and colonialism. France rejects it and will stubbornly pursue peace,” President Macron emphasized.
“Who is hegemonic today if not Russia?” asked the president of France and added “Those who remain silent today (…) serve the purpose of a new imperialism, a modern cynicism that destroys the international (legal) order, without which peace is not possible”.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is at the center of the UN General Assembly’s proceedings this week in New York.
