“It appears to have been a targeted attack,” said a police officer in the city of Tarimoro in Guanajuato state, which has been wracked by armed conflict between rival drug cartels for years.

Gunmen opened fire at a bar in central Mexico, killing 10 people, in another recent outbreak of gun violence in the country.

“It appears to have been a targeted attack,” said a police officer in the city of Tarimoro in Guanajuato state, which has been wracked by armed conflict between rival drug cartels for years.

According to the same source, all the victims were men. So far no arrests have been made.

A local government official said the nine men were killed on the spot and the tenth succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a hospital.

Speaking of a “brazen attack”, Guanajuato governor Diego Sinue Rodríguez expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. However, he did not provide further details about the attack.

The federal Security Ministry reported this week that Guanajuato has seen the most murders of any Mexican state this year: a total of 2,115 victims from January to the end of August. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said this morning that 20 homicides were reported in the State of Guanajuato on Wednesday alone.
