“In response to such a hostile action, the Ukrainian side has decided to withdraw Iran’s ambassador to Ukraine from his accreditation and significantly reduce the number of members of Iran’s diplomatic delegation in Kyiv,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Ukraine will “significantly” reduce Iran’s diplomatic presence in the country in retaliation for the transfer of weapons systems from Tehran to Moscow, it was announced tonight, hours after a man was killed in the port of Odesa in a strike by Russian drones Iranian made.

“In response to such a hostile action, the Ukrainian side has decided to withdraw Iran’s ambassador to Ukraine from his accreditation and significantly reduce the number of members of Iran’s diplomatic delegation in Kyiv,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry noted that Iran’s decision to supply weapons to Russia is an unfriendly act and inflicts a serious blow on bilateral relations.

The chargé d’affaires of the Iranian embassy was called to the ministry where he was informed of Kiev’s decision.

“The Iranian side was informed that the delivery of Iranian weapons to Russia (…) directly contradicts the neutrality, respect for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the ministry added.

The Ukrainian military earlier announced that it shot down four Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones in the sea off Odessa and another Mohajer-6 drone in another area.
