Her government Japan decided to ban exports to Russia products that can be used to make chemical weapons, further sanctioning Moscow as it is “deeply concerned” after it threatened to use nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine, Presidency Minister Hirozaku Matsuno said today.

The Japanese government also added another 21 Russian organizations, particularly scientific ones, to the list of sanctioned entities, according to a press release released after today’s cabinet meeting.

The meeting approved the new sanctions against Russia announced by Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi at the G7 last week.

“Japan is deeply concerned about the possibility of using nuclear weapons in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” Mr. Matsuno said during a press briefing, adding that Tokyo would continue to work with the international community to support Ukraine. as well as to impose punitive measures on Russia.
