The Turkish Foreign Ministry called the German ambassador for an explanation
“Sewer rat” was described by the vice-president of the German Liberals and one of the vice-presidents of the German parliament, Wolfgang Kubicki, the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan provoking the strong reaction of Ankara.
Specifically, during his speech at a pre-election event in Lower Saxony, the vice-president of the German Liberals launched a harsh attack on Erdogan for his tactics towards the refugee crisis. He even warned the federal government not to “open its arms again” in the event of the next wave of refugees, which he blamed Erdogan for causing, because as he said Turkey could deliberately trigger the next crisis while he did not fail to characterize the Turk president… “sewer rat”.
Anger from Ankara
Ankara, for its part, condemned the statements, calling them “insulting”, with the Turkish Foreign Ministry calling the German ambassador for an explanation.
In particular, as stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, “We condemn in the strongest possible way the insulting statements of Wolfgang Kubicki, vice president of the German Federal Parliament, about our President (Erdogan) in a speech he delivered during the election campaign for state of Lower Saxony”.
According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Kubitsky’s statements are “unacceptable” and “he is not suitable for the position of vice president of the Bundestag”.
“He was far from any political morality and responsibility,” says the representative of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, adding that “the indecent statements show Kubitzky’s political and moral level and reveal his vulgarity.”
According to the announcement, the German ambassador in Ankara was summoned to the country’s foreign ministry, where Ankara’s “strong disapproval” was conveyed to him.
