Her government Latvia declared a state of emergency on the border with Russia, in the wake of the partial mobilization decided by Moscow to strengthen its forces on the Ukrainian front. The special regime provides additional resources to protect the border in case many Russians try to enter the country Baltic.

The state of emergency, which comes into force from tomorrow Wednesday and will last for three months, affects areas in the eastern part of the country – which is a member of the EU and NATO – including airports and train stations.

The Latvian government also decided to close the border Pedetse station in order to limit the number of Russians entering the country. In addition, the border guard was ordered to strengthen its patrols on the border with the Russia.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs assures that currently the situation on the Latvian-Russian border remains under control. However, in the wake of the partial conscription he declared the Kremlin, the number of Russians leaving their country has increased significantly. Therefore, there is a risk of a sharp increase in the number of irregular immigrants, adds the Latvian Ministry of the Interior.

The Latvian government has also declared a state of emergency on the border with Belarus since August 2021, when thousands of migrants tried to cross the border.
