The new arms and ammunition package will draw funds from the so-called Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which has been approved by Congress and allows President Joe Biden’s administration to procure supplies from the arms industry directly, rather than sending material from reserves of the US armed forces
The US administration is preparing a new $1.1 billion arms and ammunition package to help Ukraine in its war with Russia, and its allocation will be announced very soon, US officials said on Tuesday, after the completion of referendums that Washington calls the annexation of four Ukrainian regions into the Russian Federation a “fraud”.
The new arms and ammunition package will draw funds from the so-called Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which has been approved by Congress and allows President Joe Biden’s administration to procure supplies from the arms industry directly, rather than sending material from reserves of the US armed forces, they explained.
The package includes HIMARS multiple launch systems, ammunition for them, various types of anti-UAVs, radars, spare parts, as well as training and technical support, one of the government sources told Reuters news agency.
At the same time, Washington is preparing a new set of sanctions against Russia if Moscow annexes the Ukrainian regions where referendums were held. President Biden condemned these popular consultations, insisting that the US will never recognize their results.
The US has spent more than $15 billion on military aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded on February 24.
