THE police leadership of Iran warned on Thursday that its forces would oppose “with all their might” the protesters who have been protesting for 12 days over the death of Mahsa Amini after she was arrested by the moral police.
“Today the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and some rioters are trying to disrupt the order and security of the nation using any pretext,” the police administration announced.
“Police personnel will oppose with all their might the plots of counter-revolutionaries and hostile elements and act decisively against those who disrupt public order and security everywhere in the country,” the statement continued, as reported by the Fars news agency.
Demonstrations have been held every night since September 16, the day 22-year-old Amini died, three days after she was arrested in Tehran for not wearing her headscarf properly.
According to the official report released today by Fars, about 60 people have been killed” from September 16. Police said 10 were killed in their ranks, but it is not clear if they are among the 60 deaths.
Iranian authorities indicated that more than 1,200 protesters have been arrested. Yesterday, moreover, Faezeh Hashemi, the daughter of the former president of Iran, was also arrested in Tehran Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, for “inciting riots in a demonstration”, as reported by the Tasnim news agency.
