Russia on Nord Stream sabotage: “Stupid and absurd” to accuse us

Leaks from the pipelines are “problematic” for Moscow because Russian gas leaking from them is “very expensive”, Peskov said.

The Kremlin stated today that the allegations that the Russia is somehow behind an attack on the gas pipelines Nord Stream they are “stupid and absurd”, adding that Moscow has seen a sharp increase in the profits of American companies that supply gas to Europe.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during the daily press briefing that the incident must be investigated and that the timeline for repairs to the pipelines is unclear.

Europe is investigating what Germany, Denmark and Sweden have called attacks that caused major leaks in the Baltic from Russia’s two Nord Stream gas pipelines.

“It was quite predictable” that some would blame Russia, Peskov said. “Predictable, stupid and illogical“, he added, underlining that the leaks from the pipelines are “problematic” for Moscow because the Russian gas leaking from them “is very expensive”.
