The mammoth operation, involving drones and specially trained dogs, has so far yielded no fruit.

Chilean authorities are searching a mountainous region in the north of the country in search of British astronomer Thomas Marsh, who mysteriously disappeared on September 16 from an observatory he visited as part of a scientific investigation.

Rescue crews, police and soldiers are “combing” the mountainous area around the La Sigilla astronomical observatory, located almost 600 kilometers north of the capital Santiago, in search of the 60-year-old Warwick University researcher.

The mammoth operation, involving drones and specially trained dogs, has so far yielded no fruit.

However, the authorities have not lost their hope that Mars can be found alive.

The room where he was staying was untouched and all his belongings were found there. The keys to Mars were spotted on a road leading to the astronomical observatory.

Thomas Marsh traveled to La Sigea astronomical observatory with a PhD student from Warwick, England. According to reports, the student has given a statement to an investigator, but the prosecutor’s office has refused to confirm or deny it.

The British scientist’s family, who have launched appeals for help on social media, are expected to arrive in Chile in the next few hours.

The three telescopes at the La Sigilla observatory, managed by the European Southern Observatory (ESO), are located at the southern edge of the Atacama Desert, at an altitude of 2,400 meters.
