The bulk of Russian gas delivered to Italy passes through Ukraine via the TAG pipeline which reaches Tarvisio in the north of the country, on the border with Austria.
Russia’s Gazprom has completely suspended natural gas deliveries to Eni for today, citing “the impossibility of transporting gas through Austria,” as the Italian energy company announced.
“Gazprom has informed us that it cannot confirm the delivery of the required volume today, citing the inability to transport gas through Austria,” Eni pointed out. Consequently today “the flow of Russian gas to Eni through the entry point at Tarvisio will be zero”, he added.
The bulk of Russian gas delivered to Italy passes through Ukraine via the TAG pipeline which reaches Tarvisio in the north of the country, on the border with Austria.
According to an Eni representative, quoted by the Italian agency AGI, “we are working to ascertain with Gazprom whether it is possible to resume the flow to Italy.”
Russian gas exports to Europe have been steadily declining since Moscow invaded Ukraine and imposed sanctions against it.
Eni had announced at the beginning of March that it was withdrawing from the Blue Stream natural gas pipeline which it jointly controlled with Gazprom.
