One person has been killed and the fate of two others is unknown after an explosion at an Arsenal industry munitions factory in the Bulgarian city of Kazanlak.

The factory was completely destroyed by the powerful explosion that rocked the city of Kazanlak, about 200 kilometers east of Sofia, in the morning.

The fate of two women (43 and 53 years old), who were inside the factory, is unknown and it is feared that they are dead.

A 43-year-old woman who was injured by the shock wave was taken to a hospital in the Bulgarian capital with a serious brain injury.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear, but prosecutor Todor Deyanov – who visited the area – told reporters that the accident was likely due to a violation of safety regulations regarding the handling of explosive materials.
